I meant to post this on Wednesday night...but just wasn't able for whatever reason. My co-worker Rob came home from Iraq Wednesday evening. The streets of West Jefferson, North Carolina were clustered with groups of Ashe County citizens and troop's families waiting for the guys and gals to come home. The parade route was a 3 miles long---from 'the' intersection to the National Guard Armory. The town was painted yellow--and nature seemingly took the clue that the 1450th were coming home by bursting into vivid yellow forsynthia and daffodils.
At least once a week Rob and I would communicate via email--ahhh, the bizarre convenience of new war. I sent him a phone card once and he called while he was on the road in northern Iraq. Our boss consulted me this week and asked me what kind of computer that Rob might want to work on. I told him that he should have one of these instead of a Dell. Once you have a Mac, you don't go back!
Oops! I forgot to mention that tomorrow (Saturday) is my birthday. I always have to think about how old I am--but I'm gonna be 42, I think. Sweet husband is downstairs right now making meringues for my Boccone Dolce (a.k.a. Sweet Mouthful). It is a wonderful concoction of ripe Florida strawberries, sweet dark chocolate and whipped cream all layered between the meringues. I ran an extra 5k today in anticipation of my gluttonfest. I requested grilled wild salmon, mashed potatoes w/ramps and champagne to accompany the meal. I gathered the ramps this morning.
Additionally, I am going to be treated to a day of from work. I travel to the Big City South of Us to see eldest child play in a double header of LAX. On Sunday, we go to micro city south of us to watch youngest child perform in a ballet/clogging competition. Go Girls!
Just found out that my birthday present came from Winn Dixie. Wish we had a Piggly Wiggly 'round here. What could it be?
