Introducing....my eldest! She was on the sidelines of the final Lacrosse match of the season. Her team won. 16-4. I show you this now because I finally obtained her permission to post it after explaining why I love this photo of her. So, indulge my motherly bragging. First, she is unaware that I am taking her photo. As her mom, I can read her body language. She is completely relaxed and enjoying the moment. She is just being. The slight smirk on her face is probably a response to a comment made by one of her team mates. I adore her war paint. Knowing her, next year it will be more extravagant. The locks of strawberry blond hair carelessly blowing around her face remind me of another photo I have of her when she was 9 and riding her bike through the mud puddles of Valle Crucis Park. She was just being then as well-- I just now noticed the mouth piece wrapped in her hair---ewww! I need to ask her about this strange little habit. Notice the sleeves of her shirt tucked into her bra strap so that she doesn't get tan lines. I keep telling her that with her coloring, she will only get more freckles and burn---Her response to me: 'I do that so my skin cancer will be more even.' What's a mom to do?
FYI: Mark@Photojournalism turned me on to this site . Warning: The photo of the poor Iraqui child made me tear up and hug my children a bit tighter. But, keep reading...this blog is special.
