Last night I was combing through some of my reject photos from days gone by when I came across this photo of St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. I took this photo in the early '90's while my husband and I briefly lived there. At the time, I was experimenting with alternative processes using Polaroid SX-70 film. From what I recall, I used an exacto knife and separated the top layer of plastic from the caustic emulsion below. I took a cotton ball and wiped away the emulsion leaving the plastic with a transparent image. I then took watercolor (I can't swear to this one) and painted upon the image. I was never good a staying within the lines and in my impatience, I accidentally smeared colors.... In any case, remember that this was before I knew about Photoshop. I was never satisfied with the images I took that day, until now. Despite being distressed and clad in gaudy colors, I keep coming back to this one.
