Taken early this morning on top of Boone. Now mind you, don't think that there is snow in Boone. Just on top it.
To put it simply-It was a very good day.
If you visited here earlier, you may have noticed that I exchanged the first photo with this new and improved one. After a early morning jaunt to this spot near Howard Knob, my editor suggested that he may want {gasp} a nice nature something something to put in the paper tomorrow. Without giving him time to change his mind, I grabbed my photobag and headed for the hills. While passing Row by Row books in Boone, I saw my friend Justin and asked if he wanted to ride with me to find some snow. Without hesitation he jumped into my Jeep and thus we began our adventure to find the place where Autumn and Winter meet. The sun had come out. There was blue sky and the sun clung to the naked trees, yet those with leaves were in full competition for my attention. Justin must think I’m was nuts because every other sentence that came out of my mouth was poignant. 'Whoa--look at that," I said alot to him.
Earth's Beauty never bores me. But today was extraordinary...
I am hoping that the really good photo that puts the former photo that I posted here to shame will be in tomorrow's paper. If so, I'll link it.
And Sorry Utenzi ...this photo of Justin is sans bovine...
Then, like deja vu all over again...I fell in love with my job all over again. The sweetest little old lady came to our office armed with a bucket load of custard that she had made from a 25 1/2 pound winter squash. There I was raking my fork into a community well of goodness.
The beauty found within a small town newspaper never bores me either.
Lots of good things happen ‘twixt and ‘tween.
But tonight I got call from yet another friend, Rob. I used to work with Rob when he was young and didn’t know any better. But like all our children, Rob grew up and made himself something something. Now he manages a couple of blogs (in his spare time of doing other more important things). My favorite is the Appalachian State University Alumni Blog. Take a gander because he has done a fine job of understanding how to use the blog as an interactive communication tool. Rob is my renaissance man.
Oh and it was also a good day because it was report card day. Although my girls did not completely set the world on fire with straight A’s, they did a fair job of at least not lying about their grades to me before hand so...I’ll take the truth over fiction anytime!
(These words were posted before the above was even a thought. I leave them just to make any comments remain in context.) This was a shivery morning in which I emerged from my warm shower, grabbed for a towel, and screamed 'Brrrrr-shee." My husband laughed while he passed me my red flannel robe. Although it is not really all that cold yet, it takes us a bit of time for our bodies to adjust to ice cube weather.
