I've been slammed up against the wall with rapid fire deadlines at my day job. But, I had to get out for a few minutes today and take a photo of something. I chose this milkweed as my subject. At first I was attracted to the texture and form, but then as a gentle breeze flowed acrossed it, I noticed that the seeds were one by one, being released. Oh, I do love action shots! I had to move around the milkweed and finally found a suitable background (courtesy of a burnt red oak tree). The sidelighting suited the subject because the direction of the wind put the seeds on the same plane of focus as the pod. This isn't quite the perfect image that I wanted. If I had to do it over again, I would have made the field of focus just a wee bit deeper. I am also bothered that the far right seed is cut off in the photo...and that there are a couple of highlights blown. But oh well. In photography, the more you burn, the more you learn.
I'm here to tell you that capturing a seed floating in mid air just is not easy.
