My toes have just about thawed out from covering yesterday's Appalachian v. Southern Illinois football game. I'm sure that most of you are delighted that App beat SI 38-24. If you aren't, then you should probably go ahead and skip the next two entries of this blog....I'll wait...go ahead and click onward...
Now, for those of you who are at least mildly interested...
ASU ROCKS!
Whew! I had to get that out of my system.
Now, about the photo. I am pleased to introduce Randy and David Jackson. David (right) is known locally as the "Voice of the Mountaineers". His voice is a pleasant blend of detailed team knowledge and effervescence about everything ASU football, basketball, and baseball. His play-by-play actions stream over the finest local radio stations. And he does a lot more behind the scenes as well...his formal title is Associate Athletic Director of Public Affairs. David is a undoubtably 100% Mountaineer.
Beside him is his father Randy Jackson. Randy was in a sort of conundrum this weekend. You see, in the early to mid 70's, Randy was known as the voice of the 'Salukis" (aka Southern Illinois) so he has an allegiance to the somewhat anorexic looking dogs. He worked in Carbondale many a year. Anyhow, I found it touching to go up to the press box before the big game this weekend and see father Randy giving his son a hand preparing for the upcoming Appalachian Sports Network presentation while in the John W. Dinkins Skybox.
When I questioned who he was rooting for Randy graciously said:
" No matter who comes out on top, I win."
Seeing father/son rival teams knocking the puddin' out of each other during post season must be a kick...
But working along side your grown son doing a job your both enjoy...is Priceless!
