I spent most of the day outdoors in the fog and rain. I stood in a soaked field for more than 30 minutes waiting for the Tweetsie engine to cross the trestle. I waited 20 minutes in the dense fog waiting for someone to venture through the picturesque maple-lined Bass Lake loop. A girl and her dog were my saviors. I spent a couple of hours getting to know an adorable lady and her horses. By the end of the day I had soaked through two pair of sneakers and two pair of pants. My hoodie was lined with dog, horse and goat fur.
Ummm, I loved it all! So, just to get back at the glut of leaf peepers 'round here, I'm posting a photo lacking autumn color. Here are ducks floating upon Bass Lake in the fog. Tomorrow I will I promise to be normal.
Hint/Tip: After touring the High Country today, if'n I was you, I'd drop everything and high-tail it up here. The leaves are perfect right now in Blowing Rock and the upper elevations. If you can't make it till next weekend, I would worry because I think the colors will hang on unless there's a nasty windstorm. I'll try to get the glue gun ready just in case...
