Yep. I've gone to the underworld and of course, I took photos. Look. See. What could it be? Any wild guesses? This photo is quite literally, a shot in the dark...

Ok-So Jesse is absolutely right. He guessed it is a bat and he is correct. Ya gotta go see his photos and his animals. This particular bat clings to the walls of the abandoned Cranberry mine in Avery county. The bat is covered in beads of condensation as a couple of delightful eco-geeks and myself were in a particularly damp shaft searching for the elusive Virginia big-eared bats . The field trip was not only informative, but oh so cool. Sometimes my day job rocks! And yes Mom, you should have worried because huge rocks were falling all about us and I wasn't wearing protective gear...I didn't even carry a simple bottle of water with me, but if'n in a pickle, I would have sucked the beads of water off the bat ;-)
