When Appalachian State's opening drive ends with a fumble at the 1 yard line, it becomes apparent that it is again a fight for life in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. But, even in the darkest of moments, I believe in the ability of the Mountaineers to dig deep and rally. And my Apps didn't disappoint me, overcoming the feisty Bulldogs 37-21. I'll be compiling an album and will post it on the top sidebar sometime tonight or tomorrow morning.
OMGosh. I'm actually posting an image today. It has been awhile. And I have tried to take photos, oh how I've tried, but I've been in a horrible rut of late. The photo mojo just ain't clickin'. But I know that this too will pass...
What have I been doing?
For one, I haven't been working as I've taken a couple days of vacation. I'm in play mode. I've been Twittering and Skyping my brother and nephew, securing our electronic connection thing.
Then, Annie and I have taken several walks in the winter woods. She's finally discovered her nose leads her to exciting wildlife rewards such as turkey poop.
And my girls both returned home to make withdrawals from the Bank of Parent's ATM. While they were here, gracing us with their presence, Milton Bradley entertained us. Joined by my folks, we played Monopoly and Rummikub.
And yes, I would be remiss in mentioning The Food. Like many of you, I ate and will continue to eat.
And I read. Here's a discovery. Appalachian son Jim Wayne Miller speaks of places I know.
He loved warm winter days when woodlands opened
their summer secrets to a passerby.
Treeshadows lay crisscrossed, low creeks deepened,
borrowing their cold blue from the sky.
Icicles glistened on the rock-backed ridges,

streaking the chalk walls of the limestone quarry.
Between white sycamores the river turned,
sure of where it was going, in no hurry.
Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to hop into the shower and then go to The Rock to watch my beloved Appalachian State football team play S.C. State in the first round of FCS playoffs.
I am late to posting about today's snow, but man, I was out most of the day in it. I took many, many photos because it was mostly a pretty snow despite numerous gusting squalls which blanked the sun. The snow has stopped, but alas, the wind has not ceased. My toes are just now beginning to thaw...
And I forgot about this little guy...
Who knew lobsters' had eyelashes or little horns on the tops of their heads. I swear the buggers have mandibles, but what do I know? If it wasn't for the generosity of Melissa, then this hillbilly would still be in the dark on the nature of such beings. I know this for sure; the bugs taste mighty good.
Mainelife sent me 6 lobsters today. They arrived at work and well, we don't get stuff like this in these parts often. The critters drew quite a crowd in the office.
"Oh my daughter loves to look at the two of them swimming in the tank at the grocery store," said one woman.
"I' ve only had the frozen tails before, and though sweet, were too chewy," said the guy with a long beard.
"Hmmm...who got lobsters? Are they really alive?"
When she gets round to posting it , Gnumoon made a really cute outfit for our little office mascot...
My husband and I boiled the bugs tonight. I skipped an ASU basketball game to spend quality time with the him. We have no other friends nearby, so dined alone, sharing an IPA. The, we carefully extracted the meat and soaked it in a brine mixture to freeze for a Thanksgiving bisque.
I'm still stuffed with lobster meat yet also filled with the kindness and love of having an internet=real life friend. Tis sweeter than any Maine lobster meat. For real.

This post is for you. Look! Annie is eating a snowball. She likes snow. She thinks this is fun. She wags her tail all the time, especially when it snows and she has a little boy around to play with. She would love to eat snow cream with you one day when you visit. She also wants to chase you on a sled as you ride with your daddy & mommy down our mountain through the Indian Meadow, and she will help you throw snowballs at your father. Your Aunt Re Re owes your Daddy lots of snowballs:) We'll build a fort or maybe, if the conditions are right, we'll build an igloo and build a campfire inside.. No matter what, we will have fun times. There are many hot chocolate w/marshmallow days in your future.

The other photo above this is just a little look at mountains from the deck of the Grove Park Inn @ Asheville.
While my husband stayed home, content with cleaning, I escaped on a Sunday drive to the tops of mountains. I found slightly deeper snows than down in the valleys. I started on Howards Knob and wound my way up Junaluska and along Tater Hill. I told my sweet husband that I was just testing out the new snow tires. He totally bought it:)
On my drive I listened to a mix of bluegrass and blues. I listened to Mavis Staple doing a live version of "I'll take you there." When I returned home I was doing a very innocent Google search when all the sudden I happened upon an internet train wreck. You know? A place on the web which is so foreign and out of place you just can't not look. Meet Diana Campanella aka Artemisbell. She likes to dance and it is a wonder she isn't more famous. She's 55 Y.O. and is quite a hit in Brazil. She is prolific in posting of Youtube videos of herself dancing in her Scottsdale, AZ living room. Don't worry--this is safe dancing. She is a completely wonderful nut..
That makes four in a row. Under wet, windy weather, the Mountaineers defeat the Elon Phoenix 24-16 at The Rock on Saturday. The photo is of Matt Cline scoring in the first half.

And yes indeed I am going to the Appalachian State vs Elon game. Forecast? Looks like snow.
If this photo is a little dark and gloomy, well let it be known that the camera isn't lying this time. I did play around a little bit with Photoshop, but not much. My jeans are soaked and my shoes are warming on the exposed copper heating pipes in my office while I attend to some editing duties. But I get to go back out in the weather in a bit and as odd as that sounds, I can't wait. I can't leave a mud puddle in peace...
But tonight, when I'm weary of the weather and I'm warming my insides with a glass of red wine, I'm a gonna stop in and visit Alanna and check out all her Thanksgiving vegetable recipes. Time to start menu planning for the big meal. I made the caulifower cream two nights ago for dinner and I loved it so much I've eaten the leftovers for breakfast.
Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go play in the rain.
