It's not easy shooting flying turkeys at dusk, but that doesn't stop me from trying.
Driving home last night, a low flying object was caught in my headlights just as I remembered that turkeys roost high in the Poplar trees this time of year. Reckon the bird was reading my mind? I stopped my Jeep and stood in the middle of the drive and listened to dozens of perturbed fowl above my head. Clearly I had crashed their turkey roosting party. I was aware I could be the recipient of the next freshly-loaded turkey bomb. I watched a three-ringed turkey circus unfold on the highest branches. One by one, they dragged their awkward carcasses from their lofty perches and with much ado, voiced their turkey disappointment. They flew far away, weighed down by the burden of their busted expectations.
I'm going to complete my holiday plans today. It is not easy to pull off the miracle of making everyone happy, but that doesn't stop me from trying...
Wishing all of you peace laced with a hearty dose of comfort and joy.
"And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more." ~Dr. Seuss
A Christmas candle is a lovely thing;
It makes no noise at all,
But softly gives itself away.
~Eva Logue
Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart. ~Washington Irving
The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.
