Annie and I celebrated a cool mountain summer afternoon by doing what we do best together...trudging through the woods. I wore my overalls to shield me from the nettle and used the monopod as a thistle bender and snake protector. I spotted a huge patch of Bee Balm intermingling with the fairy-like blooms of Black Cohosh, but the brush was so dense, I needed my machete to get close. Still, I was amazed at the numerous Turk's Cap lilies blooming in what used to be a mature forest. We are two years into having a portion of our land lumbered and am amazed at how quickly it has grown back.
And this is a ways off, but mark your calendars...the 25th Annual Valle Crucis Park Auction will be held on Saturday, August 29th at Valle Crucis Elementary School. The flea Market opens at 8 a.m. The viewing for the live auction begins at 8:30 a.m. Bidding begins at 9 a.m. I will see you there. This is one of my favorite Valle Crucis events and it is all for our beloved park.
